At the End of the Day
Born and raised in Mexico City, Dionisio began his career as a visual artist working mainly in paint and mixed media. He studied at Universidad Ibero Americana where he obtained his bachelor’s degree majoring in communications. During this period, Dionisio developed a deeper interest in film and began incorporating the language of film into his paintings. His first participation in the world of film-making was as an artist for an animated short film entitled “Four Ways to Cover a Hole,” an official selection for the 1996 Cannes Film Festival.
Dionisio’s first individual painting exhibition was in 1997 at the Museum of Popular Cultures in Mexico City. From 1997 through 2002, he participated in numerous collective exhibitions throughout Mexico.
In 2001, he again became involved in film, when he was invited to paint several reproductions of the work of Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo, for the film Frida. At the end of 2002, he moved to the U.S. and the resulting cultural blend brought forth a new body of work which has included a variety of art commissions and exhibitions.
In 2006 he wrote and directed his first short film entitled At the End of the Day, which has been an official selection of the Morelia International Film Festival, The Los Angeles Latino Film Festival, and the Miami International Film Festival among many others.
He recently won an Emmy®Award for Graphics and Animation for his participation on the documentary The Last Frontier.
Currently living with his wife and daughter in the San Francisco bay area, he continues to create his art through the disciplines of paint and film.
