Mexican Heritage Corporation’s education programs consist of two major efforts: the annual VivaFest! Mariachi and Folklórico Workshops and the Mariachi Youth Program’s in-school, standards-based mariachi and folklórico instruction in San José public schools.

VivaFest! Mariachi and Folklórico Workshops

2017 SJMFF “Tres Grandes Idolos” will honor the cultural legacy of three giants of Mexican music who recently passed—Joan Sebastian, Juan Gabriel & Jose “Pepe” Martinez.   Mariachi music & Folklorico dance workshops will take place from January 13 & 14 at the Mexican Heritage Plaza at the School of Arts & Culture, 1700 Alum Rock Avenue, San Jose 95116 and culminate on January 15 with Mariachi Mass with Mariachi Mexicanisimo at 10:00am at the Cathedral Basilica of San Jose located at 80 S. Market St, San Jose, CA 95113 at 10:00am; and then continue in a day of onsite rehearsals and a tardeada performance at 3pm at the Mexican Heritage Plaza Theater. Mariachi Music classes are spearheaded by Musical Director, Maestro Juan Reyes; Folklorico dance workshops are lead by Dance Director, Jose Tena.   All classes will be taught by directors and instructors based in the SF Bay Area and will be taught at multiple levels of instruction in order to meet the skill level of each student.
